Tommie Sjef Kriek 2021 Lambic/Geuze - 75 CL

Kriek is made with organic sour cherries. Our interpretation of this classic style is a blend of different wild ales ranging from 1 to 2 years, combined with the cherries. The cherries were macerated in the beer for over half a year and fermented in a red wine foeder. We used 375 grams of cherries per liter of beer.The cherries come through in the aroma, along with a hint of cinnamon and almond. It is a fairly clean aroma, with only a touch of funk. On the palate, I find many notes of dark berries, fresh cherries, some spices, and a touch of red wine from the foeder. The acidity in this is quite pronounced and mainly comes from the cherries. The beer also absorbed some firm tannins from the fruit. This gives the beer a nice dry finish.Kriek is already good to drink in the autumn, but this beer can also be stored in the cellar for several years to balance the fruitiness and the base beer. With a year or more of aging, the tannins and acidity will also be more integrated.
