Tommie Sjef franc 2022 Lambic/Geuze - 75 CL

Franc is a wild beer with Cabernet Franc and a touch of Kékfrankos red wine grapes. After macerating with the grapes, the brewers allowed the beer to age for another year and a half in a foeder that previously held Amarone wine from Veneto, Italy. This rounded out the beer and gave it more complexity and depth. Before bottling, the brewers added a small amount of a relatively younger beer with Kékfrankos grapes to give the overall blend some freshness. It begins with a delicate aroma of fresh strawberries, cherries, and rose petals, followed by wine notes from the barrel and some funk. In the first moments of tasting the beer, you get jammy red fruits like blackberries, cherries, and raspberries, followed by fresh plums and roasted peppers. The barrel gives the beer a rich spicy, almost chocolatey and smoky flavor.
