Revolution Barleywinery DBVSOJ Barleywine - 50 CL

This oak-obsessed barley wine is a single, unaged, extra-sweet component straight-cask matured at the original barley winery for a year in a blend of young Hemel Hill Rye and Bourbon casks before being transferred to French Oak-augmented 1792 Sweet Wheat Casks for an additional year. Compared to VSOJs of yore, this silver, super-heavyweight presents a more restrained oxidative personality, immediately hitting the palate like a belly of malt expression, both fresh and expansive. A quick one-two punch of alcohol and grippy oak tannin so effectively prepares the palate for each subsequent sip that you must take it with deliberate slowness to avoid the barley wobbles. (Note: The can reads ABV as 14%. The correct ABV is 16.5.)
