Orval 2014 Ale - 33 CL

Note: The ABV of this beer varies, in the United States it is 6.9%. The Orval brewery produces only one beer for sale: a top-fermented beer that continues in the bottle. It has an ABV of 6.2%. This beer is brewed exclusively with springwater, barley malt, hop cones, candy sugar, and yeast. The aroma and delicate flavor are due more to the hop cones and yeast than to the malt used. What makes Orval beer special is that hops are added at two different stages in the production process. First, a large quantity of very fine hops is added in the brewing room – this produces the famous bitter flavor and is why the beer ages so well. Later, in the storage cellars, hops are added again. This is the so-called British "dry hopping," which produces the wonderful aroma that fully enhances even the most carefully prepared tasting. In the tasting room, Orval beer and cheese make a truly special pair: the unique shape of the bottle and glass, the design of the label, the coasters, and other promotional materials—all a legacy of the early 1930s.
