Orval 2003 - 33 CL

Orval Brewery produces only one beer for sale, a top-fermented beer that continues to ferment in the bottle. It is 6.2% alcohol. This beer is brewed exclusively from spring water, barley malt, hop cones, candy sugar, and yeast. Its aroma and fine taste are attributed more to the hop cones and yeast than to the malt used.What is special about Orval beer is that hops are added at two different stages of the production process. In the brewhouse, a large quantity of very fine hops is first added – this provides the well-known bitter taste and is the reason the beer has a longer shelf life. Later, hops are added again in the storage cellars. This is the so-called British 'dry hopping', which produces the delicious aroma that completely enthralls even the most carefully forewarned taster.In the tasting room, Orval beer and cheese make a very good pair: the unique shape of the bottle and glass, the label design, the coasters, and other promotional material – it's all a legacy from the early 1930s.
