Note: The ABV value of this beer varies, in the United States 6.9% is used. The Orval Brewery produces only one beer for sale, a high-fermentation beer that continues in the bottle. It is 6.2% ABV. This beer is brewed exclusively from spring water, barley malt, hop cones, candy sugar and yeast. Its aroma and fine taste are due more to the hop cones and yeast than to the malt used. What is special about Orval beer is that hops are added in two different stages of the production process. First, a large amount of very fine hops is added in the brew house - this produces the famous bitter taste and is the reason why the beer lasts for a longer period. Later, in the storage cellars, hops are added again. This is the so-called British 'dry hopping', which produces the delicious aroma that fully satisfies even the most carefully pre-evaluated tasting. In the tasting room, Orval beer and cheese make a truly good pair: the unique shape of the bottle and glass, the design of the label, the coasters and other promotional materials - it's all a legacy from the early 1930s.
