The following classification applies to batch 36. Barrel type In batch Used Cognac barrel 100% For this edition, the brewers exclusively used French cognac barriques to mature the Quadrupel for over a year and a half. Cognac is a type of brandy from the Charente and Charante-Maritime departments in France. Prepared according to strictly controlled production methods and conditions, cognac is distilled twice in so-called copper “Pot Stills” before being aged for a minimum of two years in French oak barrels. These unique barrels, also called barriques, are traditionally made from Limousin or Tronçais oak. To bring out the cognac's distinctive aroma and flavor, 100 percent cognac Limousin barriques were used for this batch. Batch 36 presents with a subtly pearled fine foam. Its dark color makes it a considerably darker beer than the regular Quadrupel. The aroma shows very subtle and refined cognac notes, characterized by grapes, dried fruit, almond and nutmeg. The taste can be described as warm and velvety soft. The bitterness level is lower than with the regular Quadrupel, and it is also pushed into the background. The undertone of the beer is pleasantly sweet, partly due to the high alcohol percentage of almost 12 percent. In the aftertaste you will find malty caramel and ester-like notes, combined with oak and of course the cognac. This Quadrupel Oak aged is unique in many ways. Batch 36 was mixed in August 2019.
