Oerbier means original, from the source. This beer was brewed at home on a small scale (5 gallons) in a copper washing kettle, by two brothers who were still students at the time. They took over an old brewery that had gone bankrupt, saying, "If the brewers don't bring the brewery back to life, no one will!" It was also a unique opportunity to create some interesting brews, so why not give it a try? That's why the brewers continued. The main work was done by the brewers themselves, and the scale of the brewery was maintained as it was. Since then, the brewery and its beers have been an inspiration for many brewers. Oerbier is brewed from various different malts, Poperinge Golding hops in flowers, and a special yeast that makes it, especially during maturation, slightly acidic. In the brewery, the brewers have excellent cellars with a constant temperature of 8°C, allowing Oerbier to mature optimally. After a few years, Oerbier tastes as if it has been mixed with wine… Oerbier is re-fermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast with vitamin B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 9% alcohol content by volume. The little man on the glass is the Oerbier Man, a simple creature holding a brewer's fork in his right hand, a symbol for work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)bier. The artwork on the poster is a mural found in Spain (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers to be the best prehistoric artwork (30,000 BC).
