Dark amber coloured beer of high fermentation, 8% alcohol, with a nice soft caramel flavour of the roasted malt and warm spices tones which make the beer nicer and rounder and make the beer even more of a true experience. Prior Dubbel is beer that referments in the bottle. Berne Abbey beer is the only Dutch Norbertine beer. Berne Abbey is the oldest still existing abbey in the Netherlands, anno 1134. From the beginning of the abbey until the plundering in 1579, beer was brewed in the old Berne. From 1639, blond and brown beer were brewed at the abbey in Heeswijk. Stichting Berne Abdijbier has been brewing the two beers Norbertijn Blond of 6% and Prior Dubbel of 8% since 13 September 2015 and the Abt Tripel since 18 September 2016. Top-fermenting beers with secondary fermentation in the bottle, brewed according to our own recipe on a limited scale by the own brewmaster of Stichting Berne Abdijbier at a friendly abbey. The proceeds benefit the centuries-old Norbertine order of the Abbey of Berne. The abbey's own brewhouse already existed on the grounds of the abbey in Heeswijk in 1639, which also disappeared later. The intention is that in time the abbey will have its own brewhouse again. The Tasting Room is open to visitors daily and the Beer Tour starts from the Tasting Room at 2 p.m.
