Dark amber colored top-fermented beer, 8% alcohol, with a beautiful soft caramel flavor from the roasted malt and warm spice notes that make the beer more refined and rounded, turning it into a true experience. Prior Dubbel is a beer that is re-fermented in the bottle. Berne Abbey Beer is the only Dutch Norbertine beer. Berne Abbey is the oldest continuously existing abbey in the Netherlands, founded in 1134. Beer was brewed in old Berne from the beginning of the abbey until the plunderings in 1579. From 1639, blonde and brown beer was brewed at the abbey in Heeswijk. Since September 13, 2015, the Berne Abbey Beer Foundation has been brewing two beers, Norbertijn Blond at 6% and Prior Dubbel at 8%, and since September 18, 2016, the Abt Tripel. These are top-fermented beers with secondary fermentation in the bottle, brewed on a limited scale according to their own recipe by the Berne Abbey Beer Foundation's own brewmaster at a friendly abbey. The proceeds benefit the ancient Norbertine order of Berne Abbey. On the abbey grounds in Heeswijk, there was already its own brewery in 1639, which later disappeared. The intention is to eventually establish a new brewery at the abbey. The Tasting Room is open daily for visitors, and at 2:00 PM, a Beer Tour starts from the Tasting Room.
