bottling date: 09/01/2020 • blend no. 18 • number of bottles: 454 After a first run of grape-based “Spelingen” from their 2018 harvest, and overwhelmed by the results, the brewers continued to experiment with the grapes from Ghislain Houben and his son Jeroen of Hoenshof, Hoepertingen near Sint-Truiden, Limburg province, Belgium. For this Speling van het Lot, the brewers macerated 250 kilograms of Muscaris must for almost four months in an oak barrel. We bottled the grape lambic directly from the barrel to the bottle without any additional young lambic being added. Consequently, the final fruit intensity is 658 grams of grapes per liter of Grape. The lambics come from 1 barrel and two different brews. 100% 3 Fonteinen. Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen “Speling van het Lot” is a series of small-scale experimental brews, barrel-aged beers, fruit macerations and blends. This 10th version features a series of macerations in oak barrels of grapes, grape must and grape juice on lambic from Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen. The inspiration for these grape lambics stems from our love for high-quality (natural) wines and our respect for wineries with vision. Add to that the creativity of a passionate team and the warm encounters with winemaker friends, and the idea for a grape lambic series was born. Moreover, it is a continuation of what Armand did long before with macerations of Pinot, Chardonnay and Malvasia varieties...
